2.    Comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle
Observed 11/12/92, 11/13/92, and 11/16/92 in Hercules.

This is the parent body of the famous Perseid Meteor Shower.   It was well-covered in the local media, since it was theorized (in 1992) of being a (one in 10,000) threat to Earth in 2126.  Many believe that it will "some day" collide with Earth.

Brian Marsden was quoted as saying this comet’s orbit was hard to link with previous orbits.  Suffice it to say this one is harder than most to predict.  Since it crosses Earth’s orbit, I expect that it will be watched VERY closely in 2125-26!

My sketches for this comet are VERY rudimentary, but I believe the basic necessary information is there.

I have no idea why I took the time to sketch this comet (howsoever poorly).  I knew of the Perseids (very well), so I knew this comet was special.  I was also fortunate to have some decent maps in the local newspaper, and a good set of binos.
My "drawing skills" here weren't meant to be shared, I only did this at the time to capture it for myself.  For my friends who read this, I promise it will get better (can't get any worse!).
