List comets observed for SILVER:
I observed other comets in addition to this list, but some I could not get (or simply did not make the effort on) a second chance at drawing, so they do not count toward this Astronomical League effort (unless a tail is seen). My apologies on my “artwork”. I am a “stick-figure” kind of guy when it comes to drawing. However, I can say that I have gotten better (with respect to comets) with time.
Some personal statistics of these observations thru November 12, 2012:
# comets observed = 22
# comets with tails seen = 8 (rest were 'fuzzballs')
# comets seen primarily in AM hours = 3 (eastern sky is light polluted)
# comets seen primarily in PM hours = 19
# comets observed with either naked eye or binos = 12 (binos are an essential tool)
# comets observed with the naked eye = 6 (17P/Holmes, C/2006 M4 Swan, + 3 below)
# comets with naked-eye tails observed = 4 (these are special: Hyakutake, Hale-Bopp, C/2006 P1 McNaught, and C/2011 L4 PanSTARRS)
